Query DNS records using the resolver on this server. Accepts a hostname or IP. Pick a record type or ALL.

About the dns tool

DNS lookup queries the Domain Name System for the records of a hostname: where it points (A and AAAA), where its mail goes (MX), which servers are authoritative (NS), and text records such as SPF (TXT). Queries are made with the resolver on the 9w7.net server and results show the current live answer, including TTL.

How to read the results

A is an IPv4 address and AAAA an IPv6 address. MX lists mail servers; the lower priority number is tried first. NS names the authoritative nameservers. TXT carries SPF, domain verification tokens and other text. CNAME is an alias to another name. SOA holds the zone serial and timers. CAA restricts which certificate authorities may issue certificates. TTL is how many seconds resolvers may cache the answer, so a change can take up to that long to be seen everywhere.

FAQ

How do I check a domain's DNS records?
Enter the domain, choose a record type (or ALL) and run the lookup.
What is the difference between A and AAAA records?
A records hold IPv4 addresses and AAAA records hold IPv6 addresses for the same name.
Why do I see different answers than someone else?
Resolvers cache by TTL and some names return different answers by region or load balancer. The DNS propagation tool compares 14 public resolvers side by side.
How long do DNS changes take?
Up to the old record's TTL, often minutes to a few hours. Lower the TTL before a planned change.
